UV PROTECTION SOP

Young Adult Sun Care Guide

Sunscreen is a critical step in a young adult and adolescent skincare routine, especially for acne-prone skin. UV rays darken acne marks (PIH) and aggravate underlying inflammation. This dermatologist guide details how to choose the right SPF filters and establish consistent application habits to protect active skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does sunscreen clog pores and cause more acne in young adults and adolescents? +

Only if you use heavy, oil-based formulas. Lightweight, oil-free, gel-based or fluid sunscreens labeled "non-comedogenic" are specifically designed not to clog pores and are safe for acne-prone skin.

What does SPF and PA++++ mean on a sunscreen bottle? +

SPF measures protection against UVB rays (which cause sunburn). PA measures protection against UVA rays (which cause dark spots and aging). PA++++ provides the highest level of protection against dark marks.

How much sunscreen should I apply to my face? +

To get the full protection labeled on the bottle, apply a generous amount equal to two strips of sunscreen along your index and middle fingers (the "two-finger rule") for your face and neck.

Do I need to wash off sunscreen at the end of the day? +

Yes. Sunscreen filters and water-resistant ingredients sit on the skin surface. Skipping evening cleansing traps sunscreen residues, sweat, and oils, which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
